  • What’s Your Story?

    What’s Your Story?

There is nothing better than a great story. Just ask Stephen King or J.K. Rowling, both of those authors provide wonderfully crafted tales that keep you on the edge of your seat and anxious to turn the next page. As a reader, you race to the end eager to see what happens but when you get there it is with some sadness as the tale has ended.

    Shortages, staffing, statistics oh my!

Drive down a street, listen to the radio, or talk to a business owner and you will hear or see story after story of severe help shortages. Pick an industry, almost any industry, most are suffering the same fate or problem, they simply cannot find help.

    Falling for New England

It is hard to see summer end. For many it is a much slower, less structured time of year. Long, hot, sun splashed days and beautifully warm, tranquil nights have been replaced by the crazy days and nights that tell us fall is here. There is an unmistakable cold snap in the air and roads in the morning are choked with traffic as Mom shuttles are full of kids going to school. Those summer vacations have been replaced by endless meetings, both in person and over Zoom. Yes, ready or not, fall is in full swing.

  • What is Wrong with Generation Z?

What is Wrong with Generation Z?

They have been labeled self-centered, lazy, unmotivated, spoiled, and referred to as snowflakes. Other generations have commented that they have little or no interpersonal skills, along with an obsession with their electronic devices, while having an inability to carry on a “normal” conversation with adults. Their parents accompany them to job interviews and, at times, fill out the applications for them. As a person that works closely with this group, I can attest that this is all true but only for a small percentage of this generation. As frequently happens, we create a theory and then find examples that happen to support our theory. As author, speaker, blogger, and sometime comic, Amma Marfo likes to remind me, many that fit the stereotype come from a similar demographic and don’t represent the whole group.

  • Just the Facts Ma’am…If you can figure out what the facts are.

Just the Facts Ma’am…If you can figure out what the facts are.

Recently, while driving either to or from a job, I listened to a sports radio talk show (something I do very infrequently these days), they were discussing COVID and the NFL. Part of the discussion centered around a linebacker for the Cleveland Browns who had yet to be vaccinated. Both hosts were mystified by his decision, as well as the rationale behind his refusal, he needed more facts. What additional facts could he possibly need they asked? After all the NFL had provided Doctors from the CDC to give the players an abundance of information. What more information did he require, after all he’s had all the facts?

  • Twenty years later and it still impacts so many.

Twenty years later and it still impacts so many.

This was not the blog that was slated to fill this space this week. Yet, when I sat down to write, this is what came out. Today, as I write this, it is September 11, 2021, the twentieth anniversary of what many consider to be the first significant and deadliest terrorist attack on this country.

  • Fall 2021 is anything but NORMAL!

Fall 2021 is anything but NORMAL!

Heraclitus a Greek philosopher once said or wrote “change is the only constant in life”. That saying is more than two thousand years old but it is incredibly applicable to the world in 2021. Millions of people here and around the globe rolled up their sleeves to “get the jab” so that things could return to our pre-pandemic lives.

  • Thirty-five hundred miles and lots of smiles.

Thirty-five hundred miles and lots of smiles.

Shortly after embarking on my tour, Debi Holland (who edits all my missives here and elsewhere) said she hoped that I really believed what I wrote in my previous blog (On the Road Again) and enjoyed my trip. When she said it, I thought long and hard about her comment. It would be easy to concentrate on the negatives, lots of driving, some nights with minimal sleep, daytime programs in hot sticky weather, not eating as healthily as I usually do, and, of course, traffic. With all of that, I had an unusually good time. So, come along for the ride.

    On the Road Again

My car has had the oil changed, tires, belts and hoses checked; the Sorrento is gassed up and ready to go. Here we go as we hit the road for the fall of 2021. Yup, I am on the road again.

  • Farewell Summer

    August 17th, 2021

    Farewell Summer

As it happens every year, the days are getting shorter and the nights a bit cooler, summer is on its last legs. Technically, fall doesn’t begin until late September, but for most of us, as the back to school ads begin to air and there is a little snap in the air signifies that those lazy summer days are winding down. It was, to say the least, an interesting summer. One that made promises, some that it kept and others that went by the wayside.
