It’s Time to Celebrate!

Spring and Summer are fast approaching. It is the time of year where celebrations of all kinds are being planned. Who doesn’t love a great party? So many of us have missed those gatherings of family and friends the last two years. For some, the news from the CDC that masks may not be required, Omicron seems to be fading, and as of this writing no new variant has been discovered, is music to their ears. Weddings that have been postponed again and again may now proceed, graduation parties appear to be poised to make a return, and let’s not forget a summer or holiday weekend BBQ.

A lot still needs to change when it comes to mental health

For years now, there has been a narrative in play that the stigma of mental health issues is becoming a thing of the past. Movie stars, world class athletes, musicians, politicians, and a whole host of other A-list celebrities have gone public with their struggles to remove that stigma and provide a more open path for people to seek help. Yet, in less than a year, 4 students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute apparently took their own lives and they are far from the only ones in that age group that decided to take that drastic step.

Recently, New England was hit by a blizzard. Not an unusual occurrence. We needed a few things for dinner the day the storm was going to hit, so the day before I went to the store. Huge mistake. Not only were there ridiculous lines waiting to check out, but the shelves were bare.

For weeks, I have tossed around the idea of doing a blog on honesty. Several times recently, I have questioned the validity of a statement that was made to me, or the way something was phrased. Then, in my inbox I get my daily mentoring email from Darren Hardy, a success coach, and the topic he is talking about is people lying. Followed by somebody reminding me of a session that I had presented years ago at conferences called “Lies, lies, lies.” So, here I am writing a blog about honesty and is it really the best policy?

Shop Small is Not Just a Saying

There are some who say, “all business is local.” Usually, those saying it are in some way, shape, or form connected to a large national/ international chain or a giant online entity like Amazon. You certainly can consider any business local, after all they hire local workers and often pay local taxes, but if you ask me that is a stretch at best and absolute garbage at worst.

Longevity has its pluses and minuses

This past week, I suffered from a touch of melancholy. It started with a simple email from longtime friend, and concert middle agent, Dave Stevens, which read “call me.” There was no witty banter in the email, no comments about my age, or sarcastic remark about me liking his wife better than him (which is in fact true), just “call me.” Fearing bad news, I responded immediately. It was, in fact, bad news.
