Thoughts While Mowing the Lawn

October 2nd, 2019 by Kenneth Abrahams

Mowing the lawn requires minimal concentration, especially if you are like me and don’t care that much about straight lines. Often, I find that my mind wanders and random thoughts keep popping into my head. Truth be told, some of them have been bouncing around there for years. Being the generous type, it seemed appropriate that they be shared with you. These are in no particular order, some are serious, some are frivolous. Enjoy!

Why is it that when you want to change a flight it costs you a ridiculous amount of money on most airlines, but they can change, delay or cancel flights and most of the time we get zero compensation?

Whether you believe in climate change or not, why should we not use our combined intellect to find better, cheaper, more efficient sources of energy?

In my next life I want to come back as a TV Weather Person, they are rarely right and make a great living.

Why would anyone, in their right mind, run for political office? There are too many good people that have become vilified while doing so.

With the Varsity Blues Scandal, I understand what those people did was wrong as well as disgusting, but really, do we have nothing better to do in our courts? Maybe instead of jail time they can use their money to start a scholarship fund for people that deserve to get into those schools but cannot afford it.

Why are there often eight hot dogs in a pack and only six buns in the roll pack?

It would be great if college faculty, staff and administrators had to provide learning outcomes to their students about the social activities they participate in each week. After all that is what they want from the students who provide entertainment on college campuses.

Who actually likes cooked calves’ liver?

I often turn off my cell phone or leave it in the car, I just feel like I do not need to be accessible 24/7 to people.

How do the people that run airport food establishments set their prices and still sleep at night?

Did you ever wonder why athletes that have good years often want to renegotiate the contracts that they signed for more money, but never offer to give money back when they have a lousy year.

There are many jobs I would never want to do, close to the top of the list is being a police officer, but I thank them for what they do.

America is about 20% of the world’s population, but we use 80% of the world’s opioids. That both frightens and depresses me.

The book The Giving Tree is still a favorite of mine. Love that story. Well worth reading regardless of your age.

Many athletes have yearly salaries that dwarf the gross of a large number of small companies.

Who thought it was necessary to have fast food delivered to your house? After all, how many people do not live within walking distance of a fast food restaurant?

The 2020 election will be stranger than most episodes of the Twilight Zone. Unfortunately, this is real life and not a television show or a movie.

It was so much easier (I believe) growing up in the 60’s than it is today.

Still don’t believe the earth is getting warmer? Since 1880 the temperature has risen about 1.5 degrees globally, two-thirds of that since 1975.

My, how things have changed. When I was a kid, smoking cigarettes was much more acceptable, now those that smoke are a clear minority.

For years now, I have preferred going to minor or independent league baseball over attending a major league game.

Why do we still have pennies? They cost more to make than they are worth.

Even though it is more expensive, some films need to be seen on the big screen.

Do any kids today just come home from school and play outside until it is dinner time?

There is nothing better than a farm fresh tomato and almost nothing worse than a rock hard, mealy hot house tomato.

For years I have been told that our blogs, especially mine, need to connect to the business more. There needs to be a clear purpose. Hopefully what you read above gave your mind a little break and made you think. We all need a break on occasion and that is where FUN comes in. If you are tired of the same old thing at events or parties, then you need to call FUN Enterprises. Not only do we provide great service, programs and events, we are an incredible resource that will work with you to make your event special.

About the author:

Ken Abrahams is the CBO Chief Blog Officer (among other things) at FUN Enterprises. He is a big fan of the rumblings, writings, and musings of people like Lewis Black, George Carlin, and Art Buchwald. If there is anything in this that made you think, good. If there are things that made you laugh, even better. If there are things that made you mad, in the words of his wife “Suck it up, Buttercup.”
