So long Holiday Season 2022

December 26th, 2022 by Kenneth Abrahams

T’was a week before Christmas at 6:30 PM,

when into an empty parking lot, I did pull in.

It was dark and gloomy at good old FUN Ent.,

not an employee could be found, they were totally spent.

It was shocking to see not a single sole in sight,

perhaps Wayde was helping the Big Guy for just one more night.

Done were the parties, breakfasts, and the occasional late-night brunch,

it had been a busy season; I assure you was more than a hunch.

Shelves in the back room were unusually bare,

after weeks of holiday events that took us here, there, and everywhere.

We had brought fun and smiles to kids young and old,

lots of happy people left the events, or so I’ve been told.

Two wheelers were scattered all over the place,

normally this would bring a grimace to Donna Bates face.

There were boxes, crates, and equipment every which way,

fear not it will all be organized, just not today.

On the floor rests boxes of snowflakes, snow globes, and so much more,

this isn’t the way are back room usually looks when you walk through the door.

It had been a great season, to that I can attest,

now the staff and the equipment just need to rest.

Our staff work their tails off, I’m incredibly proud,

thank you one and all, I say to you in a voice that is loud.

Without out all of you this season, we couldn’t possibly master,

in fact, without your support this would have been a disaster.

As much as I wish we had a giant magic sleigh,

we all know that things never work out quite that way.

Our clients were amazing, they did a great job,

we had so much fun working with them, yessiree Bob.

It felt almost like we were back in 2019,

with lavish decorations of red, white, and green.

People got dressed in their finest clothes,

they got their pictures with Santa and Rudolph with his bright shiny nose.

We worked with people from Frozen and of course Jolly Old St. Nick,

we put photos on mugs, keychains, and magnets that stick.

Our staff tried to be jolly and merry at each great event,

whether working in a ballroom, hotel, or outside under a tent.

There were times when we faced challenges, that was quite clear,

but like Santa, when FUN is in the house you have nothing to fear.

Now, it’s off to my bed for a long winters nap,

dressed in bright orange, even my cap.

We don’t have reindeer to take us far and near,

to all of you, we say enjoy this magical season and Happy New Year!

Over the last few months, in these pages and through our social media, we have talked about being short staffed and the stress and strain it puts on our small but mighty crew. Although, I won’t walk that back, I am aware that we forget at times how lucky we are. We get to see people on some of the best days of their lives. Our name is FUN for a reason. What we do is not life and death, it’s not rocket science or brain surgery, but it is important, vital even. Our events provide a wonderful break for people from “the real world.” These events let people laugh and smile. They allow co-workers to get to know one another on a deeper, more personal level. Part of our mission or value is that we help create or enhance the communities on college campuses and in corporate hallways. It is interesting that so many corporations now refer to their locations as a campus. In no small part because campus implies, for many people, a community and a place where people value and care for one another.

What is written above is absolutely true; we are all a bit tired. It is that good tired, where you feel that what you accomplished is worth the aches and pains in knees, joints, and backs. We felt like we made the season brighter for lots of folks, some whose years have not been so great. After having 2 years of very limited holiday events, it was great to be back. Some of the parties we do at this time of year are highlights to our annual calendar. For our staff, it is a time of year when we are fully staffing events, so we truly get to work with co-workers which is far rarer than some might suspect. As stated earlier, we get to see some people on their best days, and we are lucky enough to be a part of it.

Often when we are in the thick of a busy time, we forget to say thank you. Whether it is to our clients that host us, the guests that we serve, or our fellow staff that we are working with. If I forgot to say thank you, I am sorry. Thank you for hosting us, letting us be a part of your holiday celebrations and working with us. It has been both an honor to serve you and a pleasure to work with you. Wishing all of you the happiest and healthiest of new year’s. Looking forward to crossing paths in 2023.
