It’s Movember! Are you growing your mustache?
Well, it’s official. We have moved into MOVEMBER! It’s a month long campaign to support men’s health issues by growing a mustache. Established 10 years ago in Australia, Movember is to bring awareness to men’s prostate and testicular cancers. During the month of November, men are challenged to register at Movember, grow a mustache and raise funds, as well as awareness, for the cause. And remember ladies, you can do your part – just like the men who help during the month of October with Breast Cancer Awareness. Support your man (cheer on that ‘stache), help him raise funds and spread the word.
While I was on the site reading information about the cause, I came across these statistics:
“Prostate cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in men in the United States”
“Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men aged 15-35 years.”
Did those statistics shock you? They shocked me! I have had friends in their early twenties and thirties who have been diagnosed with testicular cancer. I have also had friends diagnosed with prostate cancer. Luckily, all of them had treatment and are still alive today. But, I wasn’t aware of the statistics for prostate or testicular cancer.
If you have a man in your life, make sure they have a yearly physical as well as the proper tests needed for early cancer detection, especially if there is a family history.
